Thank you to everyone who participated in the recent whole Trust staff survey!

We are pleased to confirm that 848 colleagues participated and this equates to 41.75% across the Trust. With so many responses we are working through a detailed analysis and action plan, however below is a summary of the key information gathered for your review.

Teacher and Support Staff Pay Awards 2022

We are pleased to confirm that the national process in both cases has been concluded and that we are making arrangements to apply both awards in November pay (backed to 1 September and 1 April 2022 respectively). The highlights are as follows:

Teachers Pay Award

The Government has accepted the School Teachers’ Review Body's (STRB’s) recommendations for September 2022 pay award in full, which includes:

  • a five per cent increase on all pay and allowance ranges and advisory points
  • with higher increases for early career teachers on the main pay range, as a step towards achieving a minimum starting salary of £30,000 by September 2023.

Support Staff Pay Award

The 2022 pay award for support staff employed under the NJC Green Book is for a flat rate increase of £1,925 per point, backdated to 1 April 2022. In addition:

  • The NJC has agreed that from 1 April 2023, Spinal Column Point (SCP) 1 will be permanently deleted from the NJC pay spine.
  • The NJC has agreed that from 1 April 2023, all employees, regardless of their current leave entitlement or length of service, will receive a permanent increase of one day (pro rata for part-timers) to their annual leave entitlement.

Further information/updates will follow in due course related to the April 2023 changes.

Statutory Notice of Ballots received:

Teacher union members will be aware of pending ballots for industrial action in respect of the teachers’ pay award. The NASUWT ballot opened on 7 November and closes on 9 January 2023.

The NEU ballot opened on Friday 29 October and closes on 13 January 2023.

Notification of Change to Term Time Only Support Staff Pay Factors

As a result of a recent Supreme Court ruling in the case of Brazel v Harpur Trust, we have identified that a temporary minor adjustment to the term time only salary calculations for the payment of annual leave is required for the group of staff employed on 38 week per annum contracts. This affects 230 colleagues who, as a result, will notice a very small increase in their monthly salary. The adjustment will be applied for a temporary period until 1 April 2023 and reversed from that date when the increase of 1 day’s annual leave (as mentioned above) will mean all leave calculations for term time only employees will then exceed the revised statutory minimum of 5.6 weeks.  The reversal of the change will not have any detrimental impact or result in any reduction of salary from 1 April 2023 for the affected colleagues.
