Dear Colleagues,

At the first Trust board meeting of the year, we were delighted to share the success of our children from the last academic year. Aligned with our trust value of aspiration, we have set ambitious targets for the year ahead.

2024-25 Targets

  • PSC (Year 1, 694 children): Target 92%
  • KS2 SATs RWM combined (Year 6, 763 children): Target 72%
  • KS4 GCSE Basics (9-5) (Year 11, 1620 children): Target 53%
  • KS5 A level Average Grade (Year 13, 637 children): Target B-

These targets represent our collective WeST cohorts and may differ at the school level depending on each school's context.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Iain Grafton, who is stepping down as Chair of the Board after serving since April 2011. Iain will continue as a Board member and oversee the governance of safeguarding. A separate letter will recognise Iain’s incredible service. I am pleased to announce that Carl Atkinson, formerly Vice-Chair, has been elected as the new Chair of Trust. More information will follow in due course.

As many of you know, Ofsted announced the resumption of regular inspections from Monday 23 September. On that very day, at 9:30 AM, we received notification that South Dartmoor Community College (SDCC) would be inspected on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. While I cannot formally share the inspection results, the provisional sub-judgments are very encouraging. A huge congratulations to Jen Veal and the team at SDCC for their hard work.

Attendance remains a key priority, and it is everyone's responsibility to encourage and ensure strong attendance.

From the first day of term until, and including, Friday 20 September, our collective primary children’s attendance is 96.4%. This is a tiny nudge above national average, but a touch short of our target of 97%. For the same time period our secondary children’s attendance is 93.3%, clearly somewhat lower than our primary phase and below national average. Only through a determined and collective effort will we lift this figure. Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,

Rob Haring

CEO

We had a brilliant first session for our new WeST Leaders on Tuesday, it was fantastic to see such energy, passion, and commitment to driving school improvement. Looking forward to the journey ahead as we empower our leaders to create lasting change!

A huge thank you to Katie Patrick and Susie Evans for leading this programme.
