Dear colleagues,

Welcome to the start of Term 6. I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful half-term break.

This feels like an extra special edition of the ‘Whistle’ as we extend an especially warm welcome to new colleagues who have joined the  WeST family from St. Breward Primary School, Otterham Primary School, Camelford Primary School, St Teath Primary School and Sir James Smith School following the formal merger of NCLT and WeST on 1 June.

Continuing the theme of welcomes, I’m pleased to introduce and welcome Naomi Cooper to the WeST core team as administrator in the short term following the farewell of Laura Monk.

Next week will, again, be extremely busy with external examinations and assessments. The GCSE examination timetable is at ‘full throttle’ for one more week with Maths, Science and Geography examinations to name but a few.

Our Year 1 cohort will commence the Phonics Screening Check (PSC) on Monday 10 June and the window for our Year 4 cohort to undertake their Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) closes on Friday 15 June.

We wish all of them every success.

I can’t sign off without mentioning the importance of children attending school regularly and the direct correlation between high attendance and successful outcomes. Our collective primary attendance is in line with national averages but still behind where we were pre-pandemic. In contrast, our collective secondary attendance is below national averages and quite some way behind where we were before COVID.

I wish everyone an enjoyable and professionally rewarding Term 6.

Best wishes,

Rob Haring

CEO
