New Apprenticeship Opportunities for WeST staff

As part of the skills development programme, WeST Learning Institute are planning to run a range of apprenticeships to both teaching and support staff commencing in early spring 2023.

The Apprenticeships on offer are:  Level 5 Coaching Professional; Level 3 Teaching Assistant; Level 6 Teacher; Level 6 Improvement Leader; Level 3 Early Years Educator.

These are funded through the apprenticeship levy and aim to develop and equip you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed in your role.

NEW CPD OPPORTUNITIES

Develop your career with our brand new degree-level short courses!

WeST Learning Institute, in partnership with the University of Worcester, is offering 16 new degree-level short courses for those who work or want to work with children and young people in education, early years and children’s services. 

Delivered over 12 weeks, our short courses are a great way to gain skills and knowledge quickly without having to commit to a full degree programme.

With topics including mental health, SEND, child development and coaching, our short courses are an excellent choice for anyone who is considering a career change, wants to update their skills and knowledge for their current role, or wants to try out higher education.

Funding is available for applicants who live in England through a Student Finance England loan, even if you have had a student loan for previous university study.

Arena held the first WeST Gifted and Talented day for our primary schools at South Devon Tennis Centre on Thursday 24 November. The day consisted of our most able sporting pupils with many competing at national and regional level in a range of sports from tennis, athletics, swimming, football and gymnastics. The pupils experienced a workshop with Amy Garnett, England Women’s Rugby player with 100 caps and 3 world cup final appearances detailing her sporting journey alongside sessions on getting quality sleep, nutrition and team building activities. Well done to the 9 schools and 50 pupils for attending! Our next event is Touch Rugby 2 December at Morley Meadow, we look forward to seeing you there.

Internal to WeST – Trust Attendance Manager / Assistant DPO

Grade F (£31,099 to £34,723 per annum)

Permanent, full time, 37 hours per week (flexible hours will be considered)

Westcountry Schools Trust is excited to announce an internal recruitment campaign for a new Trust Attendance Manager / Assistant DPO position.

Working under the strategic direction of the Education Information Analyst/Data Protection Officer, the postholder will be responsible for leading a high-quality information, guidance and support service, with a specific focus on school and pupil-level attendance information. The postholder will also provide effective support for data protection activities, including assisting the Data Protection Officer as required.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • monitoring and delivery of trust attendance priorities, in line with legal requirements and trust attendance expectations
  • undertaking routine and complex tasks to secure effective development of attendance functions
  • working with attendance teams in schools to ensure legal compliance in relation to school and trust responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • demonstrate a thorough understanding of school attendance procedures and legal requirements
  • have recent experience of working within a team, leading or influencing colleagues to secure positive improvements in performance
  • be self-motivated and able to work co-operatively to improve attendance procedures across the trust
  • be passionate about education and have a developed understanding of how outstanding attendance can improve life chances of children and young people in our schools
  • share and demonstrate the values of the Trust
